About Judge Weddle

Personal Profile

Judge John Weddle of Saltillo joined the Mississippi Court of Appeals on October 14, 2024. Gov. Tate Reeves appointed Judge Weddle to a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Jim M. Greenlee of Oxford.

 

Judge Weddle served as District Attorney for the First Circuit Judicial District from 2015 until his appointment to the Court. He was appointed by Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann to serve on the Mississippi Corrections and Criminal Justice Task Force.

 

He previously served as Public Defender for Lee County, Tupelo Municipal Court Judge, and as Assistant District Attorney for the First Circuit Judicial District. He also served as Special Assistant District Attorney, where he focused on crimes against women and children.

 

He has held a range of leadership positions including Mississippi Prosecutors Association president and treasurer.

 

Weddle was admitted to the practice of law in 1995. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Mississippi State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law.

He grew up in Webster County. He is married to Karen Weddle. They have two adult children.

Weddle is a member of Belden Baptist Church where he enjoys teaching a Sunday School class.
